The MAHOORA SAFARI CAMP in Wasgamuwa National Park is located in a shady area surrounded by trees and right next to the Mahaweli River for easy access to ‘al fresco’ bathing.
Forget any ideas about cramped tents and sitting on the ground for meals – this is camping in style! The camp is set up prior to your arrival, transporting in comfortable tents, a fully equipped kitchen, chairs and tables, hammocks, flushable toilets, showers and even cold beer. On your return from the afternoon nature trail, you will be welcomed with a hearty barbecue meal in a magical setting – the whole area is lit up with traditional flame torches and a roaring campfire. So sit back, relax and let the experienced staff cater to your every need.
SCHEDULE Day 1 - Guests will be received at the entrance by 13.00 and driven to the camp within the park. The welcome drink will be served on arrival at the camp. While enjoying the drink, camping rules will be explained, and the guests are free to take a bath in the river before or after lunch. Evening safari begins at 15.30 in an open-topped 4WD jeep. After the safari, return to the camp for a refreshing wash in the river or from the camp shower, followed by a tasty barbecue dinner. Relax around the campfire before retiring for the day. Day 2 - After an early breakfast, the guests will be driven on the morning safari and to the entrance to leave for their next destination.
Would you like a romantic al fresco candlelight 5-course fine dining experience in the middle of the jungle? Or how about a mouthwatering barbeque around a roaring campfire? The qualified, experienced chefs can rustle up the meal of your choice, and add on a few interesting gastronomic surprises.
